Yesterday, I received an email from someone who wrote: “Is Nutrisystem really worth the cost? I just need to know that if I shell out the cash for this, I’ll be happy with the results.”  I’ll tell you the response that I gave her in the following article.

The Cost Of Nutrisystem Versus The Amount Of Weight That Most People Lose:  I’m going to use the basic women’s program as an example because this is the most popular plan.  The company allows you to go with a package which contains a sampling of the most popular items (“member favorites”) or you can customize your package by hand picking the foods that you like (“custom menu.”) Either way, the cost is the same.  You do get a break if you want to go with auto ship (the company will automatically send you a new shipment each month) bringing the cost down to 9 for the month.  If you just want to go month to month without auto ship, the cost is 3.  Both packages will give you enough to eat five of the prepackaged “Nutrisystem meals” each day for 28 days.  This is around .13 per meal with auto ship and around .38 per meal without it.  (This estimation is before any coupon deductions or specials.)

Sure the meals are somewhat small, but there are very few diets, restaurants, or grocery products that allow you to get a healthful, low calorie, low carb, and high protein meal for just over .00.  And, this is before you even figure in coupons, specials, and discounts.  The company is very generous with these.  You can often get 2 -3 weeks free or up to 0 off which obviously brings the cost per meal down that much more.

Also, there are no hidden fees or contracts.

You don’t have to pay to sign up the way that you do with Jenny Craig.  You don’t have to pay per pound.  You only pay for your food and you can stop purchasing it at any time.  You just simply stop placing orders when you reach your goals. Also, your counseling (online or phone) is completely free.  Every bit of support that you need is included with your food order. You’re only springing for what you’re going to eat and nothing else.

In terms of effectiveness, the range of weight loss per week is around 2 pounds (on the conservative side) and 5 pounds (on the phenomenal, over achiever side.) So, if you are on the lower end of the range, you’d lose over one hundred pounds in a year.  But, if you were in the five pound per week group, you’d reach this goal in only five months.  But let’s say that it took you over a year.  This would cost you around 00 dollars for that year.  This is not much more than groceries or eating out, and this is much less (and non invasive) than lap band or gastric bypass.

The Cost / Effectiveness Of Nutrisystem Flex: Nutrisystem Flex is the cheapest of all of the options and is around 5 per month if you are choosing your own foods.  However, you are getting 20 days of foods rather than 28 because you are able to take 2 days off each week.  Again, your cost per meal is a bit over .00.  The foods are really not any different than the regular plan.  You’re just paying 0 less because you are getting less food.  I’ve not seen any release from the company about the results of Nutrisystem Flex, but what I’m seeing in the weight loss forums is pretty promising.  Most people are seeing good results from a plan that many feels “offers the best of both worlds.”  You get the benefits of the diet full time while only having to be on it part time (although you do have to eat sensibly on your days off.)

So, to answer the questions “is Nutrisystem worth the cost?” I think that the answer is yes. But whether it’s worth it to you or not depends on how much weight you have to lose and how important this is to you.
